Camilla's ramblings and ponderings
Tuesday 13th October 2009:
Two questions I have. How long will Twitter last? Does "social media" now encompass all communication, however micro or macro?
Wednesday 13th May:
Does anyone make a product that will stop your cat from bringing in live animals into the house?! Might be a market for that if not. Seriously though, when do you know a good idea from just another crack pot invention? Researching budding ideas is very difficult, you can kill off an idea before it's been nurtured into full bloom when it might have been a huge success. It takes very careful handling and is somewhat of an interest of mine. Might be time to write a paper...
Thursday 23rd April:
So, suddenly everyone is a researcher. Don't get me wrong, I love free online survey products, they help many small business achieve great survey results for a small budget. What I'm not so keen on is that they enable anyone to write a survey, publish it and to base decisions on their findings. I'm not a doctor so I wouldn't try to take my own spleen out. A poorly written survey can lead to very misleading and incorrect conclusions. There is an art to writing questionnaires, getting the right people to fill them in and then analysing the results in an intelligent manner, it's why I do what I do. And what really, really gets my goat is when people try to sell you a product through the survey and then wonder why the results are pure rubbish. Please use a professional, it doesn't have to be expensive but it's well worth the investment.
Monday 9th March:
hmm pizza or something healthy?
Wednesday 11th February:
I've just arrived back home from a "rejuvinating" snowboarding trip to find that it's snowed here more than in the Alps! It's weird because I find myself more carefree wandering over snow & ice and I'm happy to throw myself down a mountain with only a piece of wood under me in the Alps. Yet in the UK, I walk gingerly across pavements, avoiding snow and ice where I can for fear of tripping and hurting myself.
Tuesday 20th January:
For the 8th time in 2 weeks I've just gone and bought coffee. There's always loads of kids in there and this time was no exception. I saw a curious looking little girl, she only looked about 2 but had an incredibly posh voice and kept asking where Silvia was. What made me chuckle was that her Mum had bought her a muffin and the little girl was crying inconsolably because the top was cracked and in her mind, broken. Poor lamb, she's going to lead a life where she is constantly disappointed by the world.
Tuesday 13th January:
Am I getting old or is Masterchef actually really good these days? It inspires me to cook new things whenever I watch it, although I can never get the presentation right and end up making what resembles a rather poor school dinner! Tips anyone?
Tuesday 6th January:
Happy New Year! The Christmas Tree is finally coming down, but not after it's put up a fight by scratching me half to death and shedding it's pesky needles all over the floor. Still it was pretty while it lasted. It struck me today when I popped out to lunch that all this media coverage about high street sales have ignored a fundamental. The sales are pretty much over now, relegated to a small corner in a wasted area of the store whereas in previous years they would be going on for many more weeks. All that's happened is that the stores have started the sales earlier and are now getting ready for yet another stock rotation, endlessly recycling fashion. One thing that really bugs me about stock rotation is you need to consider the product and the audience! Take baby clothes as an example. Try to buy a warm pramsuit in February and it's virtually impossible. The store has already got in it's summer wear forgetting one small issue - babies grow and very quickly at that. Anyway that's my beef, maybe I should take it up with Mothercare. Oh that's one store I predict to be having problems in 2009, along with WH Smiths.
Monday 10th November:
It's a new dawn, a new day and a new life for millions of Americans and I can't wait to see how the World is going to change. This year's election has been overtly commercial, with the global media infecting other countries with the campaign trails. I can't help but think that Obama would have won anyway without the relentless commercials and broadcasts leading up to judgement day. It's always more about who you identify with and if you identify with Obama, you'd never vote for McCain. The World can do without the slanging matches between the parties as it cheapens what will be the most historic day in American history. It's hard to believe that just 40 years ago there was segregation, it seems we have come a long way baby. Lets just hope it stays that way.
Tuesday 21st October:
Just in case you were wondering, my favourite sweets are fizzy cola bottles.
Thursday 16th October
Sitting on the train I watched a girl checking her make up using her ipod as a mirror. I saw a man watching me watching her and I wondered what he was thinking.
